For the open idea competition, we proposed a modern interpretation of a traditional rural village. A place that exudes all the best from the historic village, where residents live in close harmony with nature - and each other - and at the same time in the proximity of the capital of Denmark. A place where people involve and interact with each other and share common spaces rather than owning individual plots. A place where nature become an integrated part of living, in a masterplan that embraces individuals as well as the gathering communities.
Our masterplan proposes a polycentral layout with many small mini-communities - smaller enclaves of residential development with space for different identities that support diversity and multiplicity. At the same time, the polycentral clusters are an expression of a possible phasing of the construction process and identifiable planting strategies.
We dream of a place where nature plays as important a role as the built environment. Where nature that offers experiences as well as local cultivation.
As a central part of the masterplan, we designed our take on the future “common-house” for the residents and its visitors. A building that fosters informal meetings by offering workshops, office spaces, mini-library and a brewery. At the same time the building would functions as an info-pavilion sharing news and knowledge internally as well as externally.
All buildings are proposed in co2-retaing materials such as wood, hay and straw, and with a high level of upcycled and reused materials.
